Earlier this evening the AFL announced the 2020 AFL Premiership season will commence as planned.

However, fans will not be permitted to attend matches for the foreseeable future due to coronavirus.

For the health and safety of Port Adelaide Members, supporters, players, coaches and staff, the club is in full support of the AFL’s decision.

In response to the threat of coronavirus the club yesterday implemented a series of preventative measures. With today’s escalated advice from the AFL and Government health agencies Port Adelaide has now extended these to further operations of the club.

Further to the AFL and Federal Governments advice to minimize public gatherings, the club will now extend an immediate postponement of any external engagements, including any club events and community programs until further notice.

Australian Medical Association President Dr Tony Bartone has advised people not attend mass public gatherings, effective immediately.

“Every day we delay in acting on the necessary need to reduce and cancel attendance we will see a significant increase,“ Dr Bartone said.

“My advice to Australia is as follows, clearly if you have any respiratory symptoms you should not be going out into any mass gatherings this weekend or at any stage from now,” he said.

Port Adelaide administration will be encouraged to operate from home wherever possible.

Please note, during this period Port Adelaide’s Membership team will be available as per usual and staff will be operating the membership counter at The Port Club.

The retail precinct at Alberton, including The Port Club and The Portstore, will remain open with increased hygiene precautions implemented.

At this stage the club does not have an understanding of what the season looks like beyond Round One. Once more information becomes available the club will communicate with its members and supporters on the specifics of club membership.

The club appreciates the patience and understanding of Members, supporters and partners during these uncertain times as we work on the advice of the AFL and government health agencies.
