PORT ADELAIDE and Richmond will meet for the 30th time on Friday night and the Power holds the advantage with 17 wins to 12.

The last time these sides met, Richmond came from behind to win by 13 points at Adelaide Oval with Dustin Martin being best on ground.

He won’t be there this week as he has a rest because of a calf complaint.

Richmond hasn’t won consecutive games against Port since 2013-14 and the clubs have won two games each in the four games at Adelaide Oval.

The Tigers have only won three of eight games at the venue, and lost there in Round 2 by 36 points in the grand final rematch against Adelaide.

The Tigers have lost five of their last seven Friday night games while Port Adelaide has won four in a row on the big stage and five of their last six.

Power forward Robbie Gray needs three goals to draw level with Jay Schulz on 275 goals for the club. Only Warren Tredrea has more (549), Justin Westhoff is one goal behind Gray.

The teams

After three weeks going in unchanged, Port Adelaide has made one change this week with defender Jasper Pittard brought in at the expense of the taller Jack Hombsch because of the forecast wet weather and Richmond’s smaller forward line.

Hombsch, Karl Amon, Lindsay Thomas and Jack Trengove are the emergencies.

Richmond has made two changes with Brownlow Medallist Dustin Martin to miss with a sore calf and Adelaide boy Jack Graham omitted.

In their place, Jason Castagna and Anthony Miles come into the team.

The last word

Ken Hinkley

“You’ve seen how well Richmond is playing at the moment, how well they’re competing as a team.

“They’re not competing just as Dustin (Martin) or Trent (Cotchin) or (Alex) Rance or (Jack) Riewoldt, the names that get regularly mentioned.

“The names that get missed are the ones who are making a significant impact to that side.

“If the weather comes in as bad as they’re talking about, it’ll just make it a little more of a contested game and it’ll be a territory game.

“It’s a game Richmond play, it’s a game we don’t mind playing ourselves but we’re going to get a test against the absolute best at it.”

"It needs to be because we know the challenge of Hawthorn in Tasmania and how good they've been down there."

Damien Hardwick

"They’re always a really tough opposition to play and they probably didn’t play their best football last week against a good opposition in Hawthorn so they’ll bounce back this week we think.

We’re going in to a hostile environment that they play really well at so it’s going to be a really good test for our boys but we’re certainly looking forward to playing on Friday night.

“We probably didn’t play it (Adelaide Oval against Adelaide in Round 2) as well as we would have liked and when we went to school on it there were things that we didn’t do overly well that night.

“The ground itself presents a different set of circumstances but we welcome the opportunity to go back there and give it a better shot this time.”
