PORT Adelaide defender Lewis Stevenson has suffered another injury setback and has undergone surgery to re-attach a ligament in his toe.

It will see the West Australian miss the next eight weeks in rehabilitation on the Power’s long term injury list.

Stevenson had been on track to return from the toe injury, however was unable to get through certain requirements needed to be declared fully fit according to the club’s high performance manager Darren Burgess.

Sam Gray upgraded

“Lewy was going well in his rehab, but then at the last hurdle where we needed him to demonstrate change of direction and explosive sprinting, he just couldn’t do it,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“We sent him to a specialist and between them and our club medical staff came the recommendation that surgery was the best option for him.

“He’ll now be about eight weeks.”

Injury list

Stevenson’s placement onto the long term injury list means there is yet another vacancy on the Power’s senior list, however no replacement is guaranteed.

The club has recently upgraded rookies Sam Gray and Brent Renouf onto its senior list to cover the long term injuries of talls Mason Shaw and Jarrad Redden.

Port Adelaide hosts the Brisbane Lions at the Adelaide Oval at 1:40pm on Saturday 12 April.
