Power Community Ltd, the community development arm of the Port Adelaide Football Club has launched an innovative new program designed to provide new education and personal development programs for Aboriginal students in years six to nine.

WillPOWER will act as a feeder program to the acclaimed and long-running Aboriginal Power Cup which is targeted at senior school students in years 10 to 12.

The program educates participating students about the importance of healthy and active living as well as working to further develop understanding of their cultural background.

WillPOWER participants will have access to key Port Adelaide players such as Chad Wingard, Jake Neade and Brendon Ah Chee as well as take part in activities at Alberton Oval, Allan Scott Power Headquarters and their schools as part of the program.

The program has already registered 15 schools for the 2013 edition of WillPOWER with plans to further expand the program in 2014.

Power Community Ltd's Aboriginal Programs Manager, Paul Vandenbergh, says WillPOWER is a logical step towards increasing the engagement and education opportunities Power Community Ltd already provides to Aboriginal students around South Australia.

"Willpower is something inside us that drives us to achieve our goals or to do the things we love better," says Vandenbergh.

"The WillPOWER program will allow us to work with Aboriginal kids in primary and middle schools in metro and regional South Australia to develop their understanding and pride in their culture and community.

"WillPOWER is a fun and interactive program and will work as a feeder to our Aboriginal Power Cup competition, which is currently part of the SACE.

"We want our Aboriginal education programs in schools to be the best in the state and Australia and WillPOWER has already enjoyed some great results – the kids in schools love it and are ready to engage with their traditional culture and identity."
