DANIEL Stewart’s strong marking five goal haul for North’s reserves has been rewarded with the Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week Award for Round 11.

Stewart was squeezed out of the Roosters’ league team with the likes of White, Gill and Alleway all firing, but will be knocking on the door again after dominating up forward against Sturt. The rookie-listed big man took advantage of more time on ground by grabbing his opportunity with both hands, literally.

The award is judged by Power development coaches, Darren Trevena and Stuart Cochrane, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.

With Central, Port and the Eagles having the bye, it was a quiet week in the SANFL for the Power with just six players in action, but you can read the full wrap below.

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Daniel Stewart (for North reserves v Sturt reserves @ Prospect)After being dropped to the reserves this week because of a stacked North Adelaide league forward line, Stewie responded very well, booting 5 goals and taking 11 marks, 7 of them contested. He worked hard all day getting to marking contests and flying for some big grabs. He was also solid in the ruck competing well and winning 21 hitouts, including some good knocks to advantage. He finished the day with 13 kicks, 2 handballs, 11 marks and 5.2. Being dropped to the reserves actually gave him more of an opportunity (he played less than a half in his previous two league starts) and he took it with both hands, and was the dominant forward all day. More performances like that and he’ll force his way back into the league team.

Wade Thompson (for North reserves v Sturt reserves @ Prospect)A busy day for Wade could have been topped off had he been able to kick straighter in front of the big sticks. He had 13 possessions and an impressive 9 marks, including some good lead-up marks and some strong contested marks. His defensive pressure was also a feature with 8 tackles and plenty of chases. He showed some good pace, putting the ball inside 50 five times after some good runs and had five shots on goal, finishing with 1.2.

Matthew Lobbe (for West v Glenelg @ the Bay)Didn’t get a lot of the ball (7 disposals) but made up for it with some good ruck work, nullifying the Bays ruckmen throughout the day as the lone ruckman for West. He also had 7 tackles and got to a number of marking contests, so his work rate couldn’t be faulted. He also went forward in the fourth quarter and presented well.

Jason Davenport (for West v Glenelg @ the Bay)Another hard running game from Jase topped off with 2.2. Finished with 14 kicks, 4 handballs, 6 marks and 6 tackles and his ball use improved despite the windy conditions.

Jesse Laurie (for West reserves v Glenelg reserves @ the Bay)Jesse was named as West’s best racking up plenty of the ball at half back and through the midfield. He chased hard, played some desperate footy and had some good hard ball gets in tough conditions. He finished with 13 kicks, 14 handballs and 7 marks and just needs to keep working on his efficiency by foot and hand.

Matthew Martin (for West reserves v Glenelg reserves @ the Bay)A better day for Matt and a good first half in a losing side. He was good in the contests at CHB with some aggressive spoils and good body work. He had 11 touches and 6 marks and stood up in a side that was on the wrong end of a hiding.
