The Port Adelaide Football Club and Australia’s largest hunger relief charity, Foodbank, are proud to form a unique partnership which gives YOU the opportunity to help us in the fight to end hunger in our community.

Foodbank was welcomed as the Power’s Joint Major Partner in March, with the team wearing the unmistakable bright yellow “End Hunger” message on the back their home guernseys and the front of the away and clash strips from 2012.

Foodbank provides the food which supports 130,000 South Australians who otherwise would go hungry, including 5000 children who go to school with empty stomachs. In 2010/11 alone, Foodbank - through its donors and supporters- sourced 1.7 million kilograms of food in SA, enough for 3.4 million meals.

But they are fulfilling only 50 per cent of the demand which is continuing to grow as challenging economic times force more families to seek support.

To help, Port Adelaide and Foodbank have come together to form The Power To End Hunger which was launched at Clovelly Park Primary School on Thursday 15 March by Premier Jay Weatherill.

Mr Weatherill said: “I couldn’t be prouder than to be part of this launch. The Power is my club. It’s great to see they’ve accepted this challenge to be part of something so important, such a movement for change.”

The Power To End Hunger has three main objectives:

Port Adelaide is assembling a network of Principal and Support partners to underpin the program. They will help Foodbank and assist the club to remain sustainable in the interest of making The Power To End Hunger a long and lasting relationship which will make a real difference to the lives of thousands of needy people.

In addition to those Principal and Support partners, we are assembling the “Friends of Foodbank” which will give smaller organisations and individuals - many of whom have contacted the club looking to help - an opportunity to contribute.

You don’t have to donate a lot to make a huge difference to the lives of hungry South Australians.
