JASPER Pittard's bad run of luck has continued, with the young Port half back suffering a suspected broken rib and bleeding in his lungs after a heavy collision with teammate Chad Wingard during the win against Melbourne on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old was playing his first AFL game for 2012 after persistent hamstring troubles.

He had to be helped from the field after Wingard accidently collected him in the torso mid-air in a marking contest with Melbourne's Neville Jetta.

He was taken to hospital soon after.

"It was super courageous. He hasn't had a great run this year with soft tissue injuries," coach Matthew Primus said after the Power's 28-point win.

"I think he's got a little fracture of his rib and a little bit of bleeding in the lungs at the moment so they'll just keep him under observation and make sure it doesn't bleed too much.

"We'll probably miss him for a couple of weeks but the courage to keep his eye on the ball was terrific for his first game back in.

"Hopefully it's not the season for him and we can get him back out there towards the end of the year."

Pittard tweeted from his hospital bed while his teammates were fighting out the last quarter against the Demons.

"Thanks to everyone for the messages, much appreciated. In the hospital bed, feeling a lot better, hope the boys push on for a good win!" Pittard said. ?

Primus was also pleased with captain Dom Cassisi, who had 30 touches in his first game since round 12, and forward Paul Stewart, who booted a career-high five goals.

"[Stewart's] obviously offering a pretty good target for us. He's certainly had a few bags of four and five," he said.

"He just works really hard, he definitely gives us an option as a lead-up player but he can certainly be pretty good on the ground also.

"He's able to play tall and small, which is really valuable for us.

"He's a real big body down there too so we've used him a little bit on ball, but he's certainly complemented the talls we've got down there in Daniel Stewart and 'Westy' [Justin Westhoff], and hopefully in a couple of weeks we get 'Schulzy' [Jay Schulz] and 'Butch' [John Butcher] back in there."

The Power coach was also happy with the way his team finished, given they managed 7.2 to the Demons' 3.7 after half-time when the surface became more slippery in the humidity.

"It was pleasing. We've certainly focused on our second halves and really running out the quarters," he said.

"They came at us a little bit in the third quarter there so to be able to stand up and then run away with the game ... I don't think we dominated inside 50s in the last quarter but we were able to score pretty efficiently.

"That was pleasing to be able to get some icing on top of the cake for our work."
