PORT ADELAIDE Next Generation Academy talent Lauren Young has been named the SANFLW’s Round 1 Powerade Breakthrough Player.

Making her senior debut, Young had an impressive 23 disposals, nine marks and seven tackles as her West Adelaide side beat Norwood by 14 points in a repeat of their 2020 Preliminary Final result.

West coach Mark Moody described as “the most dominant player on the oval”.

Young captained Port Adelaide’s Next Generation Academy Under 16 side in 2020 and also won the Adelaide Football League Under 18 Medal as a 14-year-old.

It was a good year for the Henley High School student who also won the Under 18 Best and Fairest award at her local club Goodwood Saints, represented South Australia in the Under 15 competition and won Under 15 All Australian selection.

For what it is worth, the teenager backed up her Round 1 SANFLW performance with another impressive 18 disposals and six tackles as the Bloods beat the Eagles at Hisense Stadium in Round 2 on Saturday.

She now leads the competition for disposals (41) and marks (12) and is ranked eighth overall for tackles (13).
