Power Community Limited has partnered with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield to expand both the Power to End Violence Against Women and Empowered programs.

Developed with major partner Centacare Catholic Family Services and the Government of South Australia, the Power to End Violence Against Women program has reached more than 8,000 year 10 boys across 112 schools in South Australia.

In addition, Power Community Limited recently established the Empowered program, which works with year 10 girls to promote a positive sense of self and identity.

Both programs provide an opportunity to facilitate important conversations with young people on respectful relationships.

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield’s COVID Recovery Framework recognises that COVID has impacted on personal and family relationships, and this has the potential to exacerbate domestic, family and sexual violence.

The Mayor of City of Port Adelaide Enfield, Claire Boan, acknowledges the importance of both programs to drive change amongst young people in the community.

“Violence against women has consequences that are felt right across our community. As the closest level of government to the community, we are well placed to influence and drive change to reduce violence, and empower women. Through this partnership with Power Community Limited, we can connect with even more young people from across the City of PAE, to start conversations and help make a positive change in our community”

Power Community Limited General Manager, Jake Battifuoco said the partnership has provided an opportunity to engage a greater number of young people in the important education.

“We are very fortunate to partner with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield for both programs, which has enabled us to engage a further 500 year 10 students across an additional five schools located in the council region. The partnership demonstrates the City of Port Adelaide Enfield’s continued commitment to end violence against women and promote a community where everyone is treated equally and feels safe.”

Participating students also had the opportunity to attend a Leadership Day held at Adelaide Oval with past and current players of the Port Adelaide Football Club. The event had a focus on building young people’s capacity to understand and address underlying drivers of violence.

Power Community Limited will also hold a role model event in November where participants are encouraged to attend with a role model in their life. The event provides an opportunity to continue to raise awareness of the issue of violence against women and discuss the importance of positive role modelling.
