Fourth-year Yartapuulti player Hugh Jackson will make his AFL debut this Saturday night as Willie Rioli plays his 100th game in Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
A childhood Yartapuulti supporter, Jackson grew up idolising now-teammate Travis Boak, and the recently retired Robbie Gray.
Sidelined twice with hip injuries since being drafted in 2021, the 22-year-old has now found good form in the SANFL, averaging almost 22 disposals and four clearances from six games this year.
Rioli will reach his 100-game milestone as he plays his 49th game for Yartapuulti, after 51 games for Waalitj Marawar, including a premiership in 2018.
The flashy small forward didn’t make his AFL debut until he was almost 23 years old, after being picked up by the Eagles in the 2016 national draft, at age 21.
Arriving at Alberton ahead of the 2023 season as part of a mega-trade, Rioli made an instant impact and has since recorded 77 goals in black, white and teal.
Travis Boak will return to the 23, as will Rory Atkins and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, with the latter to play his first AFL game of 2025 after a back injury during pre-season.
Club veteran Boak will move into outright ninth position for most VFL/AFL games played with 377.
Rioli, Jackson and Atkins have been named on the interchange alongside Christian Moraes and Jeremy Finlayson, with one of these five players to be named as the tactical substitute an hour before the bounce.
The team will proudly wear the clash version of its First Nations guernsey created by past player Gavin Wanganeen, featuring a beautiful hand-painted design inspired by Aboriginal people’s connection to the Milky Way.
The last time Yartapuulti played Walyalup was in Round 24 last year at Optus Stadium, with the Power winning by 20 points.
Saturday’s game will begin at 7:40pm Adelaide time, and the match will be broadcast live on Channel 7, Fox Footy and Kayo.
