Port Adelaide forward Caitlin Wendland will miss the upcoming AFLW season after scans confirmed a ruptured ACL in her left knee.
The 21-year-old has since undergone successful reconstructive surgery, after sustaining the injury at training, and will begin her rehabilitation in the coming weeks.
Port Adelaide Head of AFLW, Shane Grimm, said the setback was disappointing for both Wendland and the broader playing group.
“To suffer a season-ending injury just a month out from Round 1 is incredibly tough news for Caitlin and the entire football club. She’s a valued member of our program and was tracking well through the pre-season,” Grimm said.
“Despite her young age, Caitlin shows maturity well beyond her years. We’re confident she’ll approach her rehabilitation with the same determination and professionalism she brings to her football.
“We will continue to support her throughout her recovery and look forward to seeing her return to AFLW football in 2026.”
Port Adelaide will provide a full injury update on its AFLW list in the coming days.
