The Port Adelaide Football Club is saddened by the sudden passing of South Australian football legend Barrie Robran MBE.
Barrie's grace and sheer brilliance on field was only surpassed by the way he carried himself off field.
A three-time Magarey Medallist, two-time SANFL Premiership player for North Adelaide, seven-time club best and fairest, South Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee, and Australian Football Hall of Fame legend, he will forever be remembered as a legend and icon of Australian Rules football.
Port Adelaide always held the utmost respect for Barrie as an opposition player and coach. He was one of the best, and fairest, to ever play the game.
Port Adelaide legend John Cahill remembered Barrie as an exceptional footballer and human being.
“It is with great sadness I’ve heard of the passing of Barrie Robran," Cahill said.
"As South Australians, we’ve been fortunate to see two absolute champions of our game in Barrie Robran and Russell Ebert. When I think of Barrie, I think of Russell. They were humble, talented and most of all, just wonderful people.
"My sincere condolences to the Robran family and the extended football community.”
The club extends its deepest condolences to the Robran family, and to those who knew and loved Barrie.
