Port Adelaide defender Janelle Cuthbertson’s return to AFLW has been heartbreakingly delayed after confirmation she has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.

The 35-year-old had recently returned to full training after successfully rehabilitating the same injury sustained in the 2024 season, while also recently managing a stress response in her foot.

Cuthbertson suffered the setback during training on Thursday evening, with scans later confirming an ACL rupture.

“It’s heartbreaking news for Janelle and the whole football club. She has approached her recent knee injury rehabilitation with her trademark diligence and professionalism, driven by her goal to return to the game she loves,” Port Adelaide’s Head of AFLW Shane Grimm said.

“She came very close to achieving that goal, and we’re devastated for her. Janelle is a very resilient person, and she will continue to have the full support of the football club.”
