Six Port Adelaide AFLW players have been named in the AFL Players’ Association 22Under22 44-player squad for 2025, the most of any team in the competition.
It’s the second consecutive year the Power has led the league for most inclusions, with the 2024 extended squad also boasting six Port Adelaide players.
Amelie Borg, Shineah Goody, Molly Brooskby, Ella Heads, Sachi Syme and Matilda Scholz are this year’s nominees, with Borg and Scholz both making the final team last season.
Borg, 20, stepped up into a leadership role for the first time in 2025, showing the way with her actions both on and off the field.
The co-vice-captain has enjoyed another solid year as a key defender, continuously winning battles against some of the league’s most damaging key forwards.
A rising star of the competition, Goody has taken on more opportunity as an inside midfielder this year, after starting out on the wing.
With clean hands and the ability to win the contested ball, she’s averaged 12.5 disposals, and is second in the side behind Abbey Dowrick for average tackles with 6.1, showing her hunger for the ball.
Brooksby and Syme have both played critical roles in defence this year, with Syme reinventing herself as a clever half-back.
Syme’s ability to come at the ball and provide contest has seen positional shift result in a career-best year, with the 20-year-old collecting an average of 12.6 possessions, and 6.3 contested.
With a booming left-foot and ability to get the ball out of traffic, Brooksby leads the side for rebound 50s with 5.3, while also recording 13.8 disposals and 3.5 tackles for the season.
New recruit Heads made the move to the Power after 33 games at Sydney, with the 22-year-old making an instant impact at Alberton.
Averaging 13.7 disposals, 3.7 marks and 4.2 tackles, Heads has seamlessly shifted between wing and defence, taking on whichever role coach Lauren Arnell requires.
It’s no surprise 20-year-old Scholz has been selected once again, with last year’s Rising Star winner continuing to gain national recognition as one of the best rucks in the competition.
Scholz is second in the competition for most hitouts and average hitouts, while also averaging 16.9 disposals, 4.5 marks and 4.1 clearances.
The 44-person squad was assembled by inaugural AFLW player and renowned commentator Kate McCarthy as Chair of Selectors, with support from the AFLPA and Champion Data.
