PORT ADELAIDE’S selectors have made four changes – three unforced – in its squad of 25 for Sunday’s clash with Collingwood.

It follows last week’s Showdown 43 loss to the Crows, where senior coach Ken Hinkley forecast a significant review into the performance.

Jackson Trengove, Aaron Young and Angus Monfries have all been omitted from the Power’s line-up for Sunday, while Jack Hombsch will miss with a hip complaint.

Hinkley told portadelaidefc.com.au the changes were a natural measure following the manner of the loss to the Crows.

“Last Sunday’s performance was really disappointing to everyone in the team, and we’ve got to acknowledge form in both our AFL and SANFL teams through the selection process. Clearly while the AFL team underperformed, the Magpies had a really strong win over South,” Hinkley said.

“Angus’s SANFL form had been strong for many weeks, but we felt he wasn’t able to transfer that to AFL level and give us the impact we needed last week.

“Jacko hasn’t been able to deliver consistently in the areas he plays – be it ruck, forward or back – and we need to have players who can influence for us around the ground, and Youngy hasn’t been able to establish himself at AFL level in the same way as he has in the past.

“I think the important thing here, is that we have quality players who will go back to the SANFL and work hard to re-find their best form – we know Jacko, Angus and Aaron will go back with the right attitude and perform for us there.”

Howard and Wingard return

Of the seven names included in the team, tall forward Dougal Howard, injury-free Chad Wingard and 2017 debutant defender Dan Houston have been placed on the field and will play Collingwood.

It will make Howard’s first AFL game since a debilitating ACL injury in mid-2016. He has since returned via the SANFL and played a key role for the Magpies in attack.

Brendon Ah Chee, Riley Bonner, Jake Neade and Matt White come into the squad, and are named on the extended bench along with Sam Powell-Pepper, Karl Amon and Aidyn Johnson.

That group of seven will be culled to four at 4.30pm on Friday.

Port Adelaide plays Collingwood at the Adelaide Oval at 4.10pm on Sunday 13 August.
