PORT ADELAIDE youngster Jake Patmore is looking forward to getting back on the field, after an ACL injury prevented him from playing in 2019.

Patmore suffered the ligament tear in the Magpies’ second practice match last year, but the 20-year-old says it was important to stay positive for his teammates.

“It’s a little bit hard seeing other people play when you think you could be out there yourself,” Patmore told Sportsday WA.

“I just stayed there supporting the rest of the boys and that’s all you can really do when you’re in rehab.

“I helped support as much as I could, especially with the Magpies. I tried to get down to as many games as I could because I’ve got a lot of mates at the club who had phenomenal years.

“It was good to see them and their success, and hopefully I get the same thing next year.”

The Western Australian product heaped special praise on former Port Adelaide captain and current vice-captain Hamish Hartlett for their mentorship throughout his time at the club.

“Trav Boak has been my mentor for most of my time at the club,” Patmore said.

“He has helped me out a lot along the way.

“Hamish Hartlett as well. He’s been helping me with my injury rehab because he did his ACL midway through my first year.

“Those two have been a big help for me so far.”

Patmore was also thankful for the support shown to him by Jack Watts, who also spent the majority of last season in rehab.

“He’s been another big help for me,” he said.

“He broke his leg two weeks after I did my ACL, so we have been in rehab the whole time together ticking all of the boxes we can.

“We have been in every session together since the start of the year. It’s been really good having him there, also Charlie Dixon.

“Those two have been a big help.”

The Claremont junior was also very excited by the club’s plans for its 150th year celebrations, but added he is always proud of the club.

“We had a special presentation of our jumpers and the logo at our best and fairest,” Patmore said.

“We got first glimpse of that, which was awesome.

“We are a proud club. Every year we are trying to win premierships. This year is just like the rest of them, but it is special because of the big milestone.”
