Fans will be hoping for more trademark Charlie Dixon goal celebrations when Port's 2020 campaign restarts with a Saturday night Showdown clash at Adelaide Oval.

Port Adelaide will recommence its 2020 season with a Round 2 “home” Showdown against rivals the Adelaide Crows under lights at Adelaide Oval on Saturday 13 June.

The playing group will then travel to Queensland and remain in a Gold Coast hub for at least Rounds 3 to 5.

During that period Port Adelaide will play an “away” game against Fremantle at Metricon Stadium in Round 3, a “home” game against West Coast in Round 4 at Metricon Stadium and an “away” game against Brisbane at the Gabba in Round 5.

Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas said the playing group and entire club were just looking forward to getting back playing football.

“It’s been a long wait for us all – players, coaches, staff, Members, supporters and corporate partners alike – and we just can’t wait to get out there and represent our people again,” Mr Thomas said.

“I can’t imagine how complex this would have been for the AFL to put together this fixture with so many stakeholders involved.

“Our Round 2 home Showdown is a brilliant way for football to kickstart here in South Australia. Once again we thank the State Government and AFL for working together to make this happen.

“While it will look different to our Members and supporters this will be a showcase event and we can’t wait to bring you all along on this journey. Our Members and supporters will be front and centre in everything we do this season and we look forward to announcing these initiatives soon.”

Mr Thomas said playing at least three consecutive games in Queensland away from Adelaide will be challenge but is confident that the players and coaches will adapt.

“We have a play anyone, anywhere attitude and if it requires us to play several games in Queensland in succession we’ll adapt to that,” he said.

“We see this block as a real opportunity for the team to build on their connection away from Adelaide as we’ve done so successfully with our pre-season camps in Queensland over the last couple of years.

“Port Adelaide is excited about what lies ahead. The next four Rounds will pose various challenges but the energy across our entire club tells me we are ready to go.”
