Essendon's Jake Stringer (left) has also been offered a fine for engaging in the melee at Adelaide Oval.

PORT ADELAIDE captain Tom Jonas and fellow defender Riley Bonner have been cited by the Match Review Officer after a melee during their sides win over Essendon on Saturday night.

Both were charged with engaging in a melee during the fourth quarter of the 50-point win at Adelaide Oval.

Given it is a first offence for both, the standard sanction is a $750 fine but they can each accept a $500 fine with an early plea.

Essendon’s Jake Stringer and Jacob Townsend have been cited with similar offences out of the incident and can each accept the same fine.

Port Adelaide started slowly but booted ten goals to two after quarter time to enjoy a comfortable win that earned it a top-two finish and a guarantee of two home finals.

It was a milestone 50th AFL game for Bonner and forward Charlie Dixon’s 150th AFL game.
