PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Xavier Duursma is set to spend a period on the sidelines after scans confirmed a knee ligament injury.

Duursma suffered a significant hyperextension of his right knee which forced him off during the last quarter of Port’s win over Richmond on Friday night.

The 20-year-old will undergo surgery on the lateral ligament in the next few days and a timeframe for his return to playing will become clearer in coming weeks.

Fellow midfielder Zak Butters will seek further medical advice around the management of an ankle injury which saw him subbed off in the same game.

An MRI has shown an ankle syndesmosis injury. The club will provide an update on his treatment when it becomes available.
