PORT ADELAIDE has taken utility Sam Mayes in the National Rookie Draft as promised, continuing the 27-year-old’s time at the club into a fourth season.

Mayes was delisted at the end of the 2021 season with a promise that he would be relisted as a rookie.

He has played 118 AFL matches including 11 in 2021.

The former Brisbane Lion has proven a versatile option, playing in the midfield, in the backline or even up forward as required.

He was used to great effect as the medical substitute in 2021, and averages 16.2 disposals and 4.4 marks across his career.

Port Adelaide also added former North Melbourne midfielder Trent Dumont to its rookie list with pick 14 of the rookie draft.

The 26-year-old will join Josh Sinn, Hugh Jackson, Dante Visentini and Jase Burgoyne as new faces at Alberton following the National and Rookie drafts.
