PORT ADELAIDE Next Generation Academy graduate Nathan Barkla has joined the club after being added to the club’s rookie list on Wednesday.

With Barkla not selected during the AFL National Draft this week, Port Adelaide was able to automatically add Barkla as a category B rookie.

Barkla has been part of the club’s Multicultural NGA Program and is a Port District and Woodville-West Torrens junior.

The half-back also played the last three SANFL games for Port Adelaide in 2022 after being given permission under an AFL rule granting clubs access to their Next Generation Academy and father-son players during their draft year.

Prior to those games, the 18-year-old averaged 20 disposals, 3.5 clearances and 3.6 tackles per game in 12 Under 18 matches for the Eagles.

Barkla was also part of the South Australian U18 side which participated in the NAB AFL National Championship.
