At the Port Adelaide Football Club, we want to promote the rich living culture of our Aboriginal peoples, the oldest surviving culture worldwide.

A very significant part of our Aboriginal Programs is the opportunity for companies, agencies or individuals of all cultures to experience our Cultural Awareness program.

In this program, we interactively discuss the following:

  • Aboriginal culture and Interactive Learning
  • Our Religion, the Dreamtime
  • Raise awareness of current and previous concerns within Aboriginal culture, people and communities
  • Aboriginal values and belief systems
  • Kinship - Family, kinship and relationships
  • Aboriginal history and some past policies that impacted Aboriginal culture
  • Provide a statistical overview and the reasons behind them
  • Identity and communication
  • The Close the Gap initiative
  • Aboriginal employment and providing a culturally appropriate working environment
  • Food tasting (subject to availability and pricing)
  • Demonstrations of cultural practices (subject to location and pricing)

The length of these sessions can be modified to suit individual company needs. Our core workshops last for a duration of three-and-a-half hours, and are conducted by our Aboriginal Port Adelaide Football Club staff and occasionally past Indigenous players.

We discuss family history, generational disadvantage and socio-economic and environmental impacts that stem from past policies and practices.

We hope to give participants a real insight into Aboriginal culture, as well as solutions to current concerns that can be achieved through reconciliation.
