End Game
Port Adelaide matched it with the Hawks for a quarter but struggled to hold with its top-of-the-table rival on a tough day at the office at AAMI Stadium.
But there were some positives to come out of the match.
Travis Boak showed his brilliance with a 34-disposal effort for the Power and at effectiveness rate of 70 per cent.
His 24 effective touches in slippery and contested conditions is a testament to his major contribution to Port's effort throughout the day.
Port trailed Hawthorn in most statistical aspects but won the contested ball.
Ken Hinkley said this was a good achievement against one of the best contested teams in the competition.
But it all comes back to how those possession wins are used.
Comprehensively beaten at stoppages and with ten fewer scoring shots and inside 50s, Port couldn’t find the clean run and use to hold with the Hawks in the second half.
Matthew Lobbe again proved solid as the Power’s lone ruckman and had a number of strong defensive efforts throughout the day.
