COLLINGWOOD'S TRAVIS CLOKE and St Kilda's Brendon Goddard were the prized names atop the AFL's first ever free agency list when it was released before the start of the season, and they remain front and centre of the updated list released by the League on Monday evening.

Both players have been linked with other clubs in recent days - Cloke with Carlton and Goddard with Fremantle and, in the case of Goddard, he is ideally placed to decide his future now that the Saints have missed the finals.

The pair are restricted free agents, meaning they have completed eight years of service at their clubs and while they are free to negotiate with rival clubs, their existing team can match the best offer they receive and retain their services.

Melbourne midfielder Brent Moloney also appears set to test the free agency waters, while Port Adelaide defender Troy Chaplin has been strongly tipped to move to Richmond. Essendon forward Angus Monfries is another whose name appears on the free agency list.

The list of unrestricted free agents is longer, but contains several players towards the end of the careers, who will either retire or sign one-year contracts to remain at their existing clubs. Essendon's Dustin Fletcher and Sydney Swan Jude Bolton and would seem to fit that bill.

But there are others who could make a move for more playing time, and longer term deals such as Hawthorn's Tom Murphy, Geelong's Shannon Byrnes, Carlton's Jordan Russell, Port Adelaide's Jacob Surjan and Adelaide's Chris Knights.

Unrestricted free agents have either played 10-plus years at their club or eight years, but are not in the top 25 per cent highest-paid players at their clubs. They are free to change clubs if they choose, irrespective of any offer to remain at their existing club.

The AFL's free agency period opens on October 1 - the Monday after the Grand Final and concludes on October 19.
