JUST one Port Adelaide player was recognised by the AFL coaches with votes out of the disappointing loss to Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.

Jared Polec was awarded three of a possible 10 votes in the 2018 SHADFORTH FINANCIAL GROUP AFLCA CHAMPION PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Polec was among his side’s best on the day, finishing with an equal team-high 29 touches – 10 of them contested.

He also had four marks, three tackles and six inside 50s.

The 25-year-old also managed four rebound 50s, displaying his usual dash off half-back and on the wing.

GWS’ Lachie Whitfield was adjudged by the coaches to be best on ground, although he was given just six of a possible ten votes.

He had a game-high 31 disposals to go with eight marks, two clearances and six inside 50s.

Fellow Giants Stephen Coniglio, Heath Shaw, Jacob Hopper and Josh Kelly each received five votes, while Dawson Simpson got one vote for his dominant performance in the ruck.

Orazio Fantasia (Essendon), Tom Hawkins (Geelong), Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn), Dion Prestia (Richmond) and Elliot Yeo (West Coast Eagles) all received the maximum ten votes from the AFL coaches for Round 18.

The latest votes see Melbourne’s Max Gawn retain his three-vote advantage at the top of the leaderboard, although Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell has moved into a share of second after his 46 possession, two-goal performance against Carlton.
